Vincentian Amateur Radio Operator Activates Local Park for POTA

Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – March 14, 2025 – Sean Patterson (J88CU), a dedicated amateur radio operator, successfully activated the Joseph Chatoyer National Park (VC-0001, VC-CH) on Friday, March 14th, in honor of National Heroes Day. This activation was part of the global Parks on the Air (POTA) initiative, encouraging radio enthusiasts to operate from designated parks and protected areas.

Patterson, a seasoned operator within the local amateur radio community, managed to log over 64 QSOs (contacts) during the activation. His participation in POTA highlights the importance of amateur radio in fostering international connections while also promoting the natural beauty and historical significance of St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ national parks.

Joseph Chatoyer National Park, named after the country’s national hero Chief Joseph Chatoyer, holds cultural and historical significance, making it a fitting location for Patterson’s activation on National Heroes Day. By bringing attention to the park through amateur radio, he not only honored the legacy of Chatoyer but also showcased the capabilities and resilience of the amateur radio community.
